Located in the Mines of Rio Tinto Spain, our design intends to provide a carousel journey for the visitors to re-visit and learn from the history - the pre-mining site condition, copper mining industry, and environmental pollution - at the same time witnessing how architecture and nature will age together to become part of each other. It turns the mine from mundane man-made topography into a stage where the marriage of architecture and nature is shown. Similar to the interlocking layout which provides multiple viewpoints and paths around the site, the proposal also creates an interlocking relationship between the landscape design and the man-made mine as well as architecture that allows the growth of nature to take place. It’s an intriguing juxtaposition between artificial topography and architecture in nature. The project is the Winner of Symbiotecture : Geological park design challenge.
